VIETNAM’S TRADE DATABASE

Vietnam's Trade Database is conducted by The Institute of Economics. It is funded by IDRC Canada with technical support from Department of Trade and Price, Department of National Account of General Statistical Office (GSO). The Database is for querying trade data between Vietnam and its country partners.

Data Description:

       - Trade data contain Import - Export data in 1994, 1995, 1997, and 1998.  The data were  provided by Department of Trade and Price, GSO.

       - List of National Industries issued by Department of National Account, GSO.

       - List of HS Code (Harmonized System Code) based on documents of: GSO, General Custom Office (GCO), World Trade Organization (WTO), and U.S. International Trade Commission.

       - Import Tariff Lines: Are current tariff schedule based on official documents of Ministry of Finance. The tariff schedule contains 4492 lines at 6 digits of HS and 1726 lines detailing at 8 digits of HS. While Trade data were recorded at 6 digits of HS, therefore a part of data could not map with tariff lines.

       - List of Countries, Regions and Continents is based on documents of UNDP, World Bank (WB), and US Statistics Office (www.census.gov)

Notes for Querying Data:

The User can search data by categories:

       - Year: 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, and All

       - Type:  Export, Import

       - Countries: optional or choose one of 187 country/territories who are Vietnam's trade partners. Vietnam is also in the list because, in 1995, trading between Special Export Zones and other areas within Vietnam is considered as foreign trade. Trading with International Organizations is treated as trading with a separate destination.

       - Region: optional or choose one of 21 regions classified by UN.

       - Continent: optional or choose one of 5 Continents classified by UN.

       - HS Code: optional or choose one HS code at 2 digits, 4 digits or 6 digits. Because of imperfect statistical system in Vietnam, a part of trade data is classified at 2 digits or 4 digits of HS. Particularly, some data could not be classified, therefore coded as X in HS.

       - Goods description: the user can query by commodity name, with full description or key word.

Query results can be exported to Excel file.
